Sightseeing
Cassandra, the west peninsula of Chalkidiki, is one of the most famous places
for holidays with great tourist activity, night-life and endless beaches and
sightseeing
.
It is worth to visit :
- The Petralona cave. The findings prove that
man has been on earth for more than 700.000 years,
while the skull of the archaic man is estimated
to be about 200.000 years old.
- The Bithynia folklore museum with mementoes
of the refugees from Asia Minor and the museum
of fishing articles and sea-shells, the only
one in northern Greece.
- Afitos village. One of the most interesting
settlements in Chalkidiki, for its architecture,
because of the use of porous stone.
- Cassandra’s theatre. Music, dance and
artistic events at Cassandra’s
theatre make it one of the most popular cultural events of the Greek summer.
- Mavrobara. Alternative forms of tourism are
continuously being developed in Cassandra. Enjoy
hiking routes or excursions by jeep in the hart
of the mountain of Cassandra, where you will
find Mavrobara, a wet-land with a small lake,
where you will see rare species of water-tortoises
live.
- The remedial spas of Agia Paraskevi. Area
with the caves, bays and rocky shores have warm
sulphurous mineral waters that are suitable for
rheumatic disease, skin conditions, e.t.c.
